An electrician is a tradesman that specializes in electrical installation, operation, repair and maintenance of electrical systems. These systems include wiring, circuit boards and electronics. Some people like to distinguish between an electrician and a lineman, the difference is an electrician works on internal wiring in homes and buildings, while a lineman works or outside electrical likes and in power generation facilities. Due to the much higher currents involved in this work, a lineman has a very dangerous job, especially when they are called out to down power lines and other emergencies which sees them working in all weather conditions.
Once a structure is built, the electrician then comes in and installs conduit in the walls for running electrical wiring, and if built in heating and cooling systems are being installed the electrician will need to install vents and piping for these systems. When the house is nearing completion he will return and install electrical sockets, light bulbs, switches and other electrical items. Some items may need a specialized circuit such as stoves and heaters.
Electricians would also install complex electrical equipment, and are familiar with the operation of electronics and the tools needed for certain jobs in their trade.
Electricians do not only fit new wiring on new builds, but they will repair, renew and add wiring for new technologies and products that need power. As technologies change, more power is needed and new systems are added to be more efficient. Over time the wiring deteriorates and needs renewing with copper wiring.
